Coach Brien A. Calloway is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu 2nd-degree black belt with more than a decade of documented competition experience across the purple, brown, and black belt divisions.

His competitive career includes success at major International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation events throughout the United States. From his early years competing at purple and brown belt through his continued competition as a black belt, Brien has earned 12 documented IBJJF podium finishes: 4 gold, 4 silver, and 4 bronze medals.

Among his accomplishments are multiple Atlanta International Open championships, two Pan Championship silver medals, an Atlanta BJJ Pro championship, and black-belt podium finishes in Seattle, Atlanta, and Portland. His results include winning the 2014 Atlanta International Open Adult Brown Belt Featherweight division and the 2016 Atlanta BJJ Pro Master Brown Belt Lightweight division. Official IBJJF results confirm several of these championship performances.

His competition career has also shown unusual longevity. After earning podium finishes as a black belt at the 2019 Seattle International Open and 2022 Atlanta Winter International Open, Brien returned to the podium at the Portland International Open in 2024, 2025, and 2026, including silver in 2024 and 2026.

MMA Experience

Brien also brings experience from mixed martial arts competition. He compiled a 3–1 amateur MMA record, competing at featherweight and bantamweight. His three victories included a triangle-choke submission, a unanimous decision, and a 17-second rear-naked-choke submission. His final MMA appearance was for the NFC Bantamweight Championship in 2015.

That experience gives him a perspective on grappling that extends beyond tournament Jiu-Jitsu—understanding how positioning, pressure, control, submissions, and composure translate when the rules and environment change.
